How I’m Learning to Play the Harmonica
As a new year’s resolution for 2023, I’m learning how to play the harmonica. I got interested in the harmonica after hearing Bruce Springsteen play it and listening to it in a few Taylor Swift songs. I like that it’s a low-cost, low-maintenance instrument and it’s easy for me to carry and bring on trips.
First, I researched a beginner friendly harmonica to buy. I learned the harmonica key of c is a good one to start with. I decided to buy this $10 one from EastRock because of the cost and good reviews. I figured it makes sense to buy something inexpensive just in case I turn out not liking it.
Second, I found some Youtubers that could teach me how to play and how to practice with beginner songs. Two that I recommend are: del78ful and LearnTheHarmonica.
Now, I’m practicing playing a range of songs on my harmonica. You can find the list of songs that I’m playing here.
Finally, next steps are to get better at playing the songs linked above and learning how to bend notes and other advanced harmonica techniques. Also, I’d like to branch out to play more harmonicas other than just key of c.
